A Victorian silver desk stand,

marked Edward Ker Reid,

The lobbed dish, inset with turquoise to the front and profuse scroll engraving, scrolling pen support, and spiralled silver fountain pen and cut-glass bottle with engraved silver-mounted top. The dish engraved 'Sept 17 / 1850' to one field and 'From FWP Sept 15 1895' to another. Hallmarked London, 1863.

Edward Ker Reid was part of the Reid & Sons silversmiths. Originally founded in Newcastle 1778. In 1847 the firm became W.K. Reid & Son. The partner was his son Edward Ker Reid (1821-1886). He was apprenticed to his father obtaining his freedom by Patrimony in 1842 and was made Liveryman in 1848. He managed the business under his own name by 1856. In 1874 the firm moved to Gough Square, Fleet Street, London until his death in 1886.
