Liberty & Co. have been a worldwide name for well over 100 years. Founded in the 1870s, it became an international trendsetter for the Arts and Crafts and Art Noveau movement, employing some of the worlds best designers and craftspeople such as William Morris and Jessie M King.
At the end of the 19th century Liberty introduced the Cymric (usually silver and gold) and Tudric (pewter) ranges, designed by Archibald Knox, Rex Silver, Oliver Barker and David Veasey. The inclusion of a pewter range reflected Arthur Liberty's purpose to make 'the production of useful and beautiful objects at prices within the reach of all classes'.
David Veasey (sometimes going by the pseudonym, 'Tramp') designed for the Tudric range from the very beginning of its conception and was know for his use of nature and poetry in his designs.
This rose bowl exemplifies these qualities and the intricate details make this a statement piece. Known as pattern 011, the roots from the roses trail down beneath the lower edge of the bowl and can be seen from underneath; the stem of the foot is laced with roots making a connection between the repeated foliage; these roses are then dotted with butterflies in flight and at rest. The ribbon details framing the top and lower edges not only ruffles and undulates but is held in place with nails, in short - no small detail has been missed.
This is an incredibly stylish piece and works well as a rose bowl (we have the mesh but it doesn't look nice in photos), as a table centrepiece, or simply on a shelf showing all of your friends just how refined you are.
